So since I'm still struggling to lose a few pounds to get bikini-ready (although I don't know why...there's a suspicious complete absence of pools here, despite the fact that Georgia is hotter than the very surface of the sun, but anyway...) and can't make any cookies for myself, I decided to make a batch of treats for little Cricket.
Here she is doing her best cookie gator impression.
So I have a similar dog treat recipe that contains peanut butter and pumpkin, but this one has banana which I think is more summery...why shouldn't Cricket enjoy seasonal foods? Also this one has a lot of oatmeal which is good for her and she seems to really enjoy.
They may not look spectacular, but trust me your pooch is going to love them! Also do I need to get a dog bone shaped cookie cutter or what?
Peanut Butter Banana Dog Biscuits
(adapted from allrecipes)
1 egg
1 banana, mashed (about 1/2 cup)
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 Tbsp honey
1 cup oatmeal, ground fine
1/2 cup wheat germ (you can substitute more oatmeal if your dog is sensitive to wheat)
Preheat oven to 300. Grease a baking sheet, or line with parchment.
In a medium sized bowl, mix together egg, banana, peanut butter, and honey until well combined. Add oatmeal and wheat germ, stirring until totally mixed.
At this point you can cover and refrigerate the dough for 1 hour which will make it easier to handle, or you can tough it out.
Flour a work surface and roll out dough into about 1/4 inch thickness. Using a cookie cutter, cut out as many cookies as possible and transfer to baking sheet.
Bake on center rack for 30 minutes, then turn off oven and leave the cookies in the oven on the pan another 30 minutes. Remove and allow to cool before serving.
Store in airtight container, and I pop mine in the fridge as well.
